This natural processed Batian was produced on a single farm by Lilian Salil, in Kenya’s Uasin Gishu County. Lilian is unique in her faming, separating her coffee varieties and selling single varietal lots to highlight the unique character of each rather than the more common Kenyan approach of largely mixed lots.
Lillian’s farm is highly modernised, featuring drip irrigation and organic manure from her commercial dairy operation. The care and attention to detail that takes place on the farm shows why Lilian can be confident in her single varietal approach, each coffee is given exactly what it needs to thrive and show its individual character at its best in the final cup.
We’ve sourced this lot through our friends at Omwani who, in turn, have worked with local co-op Lot 20 that support small producers in Kenya and are making strides in decentralising production of coffee in the country and committing to better equity for small producers, like Lilian, in rural areas. Lot 20 purchased the entirety of Lilian's crop this year and we're excited to support this partnership, hopefully for years to come.
