Bright and fruity flavours of red apple mix with soft, sweet plum jam notes and a long, delicate fruit finish that reminds us of a lovely wee rooibos tea. This washed expression of the Kigeri producers comes through the Izuba Station and our evergreen friends at Raw Material. Pick up a bag of the same lot with natural processing for a great example of how post-harvest processing creates unique brews from the same coffee!

Discover Kigeri Washed - Burundi

This lot comes from the producers of Kigeri, one of the three hills that surround and supply the renowned Izuba Station in Burundi's high altitude Kayanza Province. Izuba means "Sun" in Kirundi, which is a beautifully apt name for the station as it provides a vital central point for the coffee producing communities in those surrounding hills. A centralised processing station for coffee is not a given in producing regions and is an enormous benefit, being able to provide support for producers' specific needs within those communities and a much greater connection across the chain.

We're thrilled to offer this lot in Mutual's lineup for the second year in a row! Sourced through our friends at Raw Material with their mission of "Maximum Impact Coffee" and their approach of limiting their work to regions where they can genuinely provide the best support and build lasting relationships. Strong communication and flexibility in their approach is key, with Izuba Station for example the support needed isn't only financial, the station's workers are paid 25% higher wages than the standard, but that the region deeply needs rejuvenation in its coffee trees with better access to healthy seedlings to secure coffee for the years ahead. Coffee has no "one size fits all" approach, every community and region has different needs. We're proud to work with Raw Material and support their nuanced approach to making positive change.
