U Sai Wan leads the team at Green Land Estate, one of Myanmar's most celebrated coffee estates and one of its largest for arabica production. Formerly a rubber plantation, U Sai Wan has dedicated the estate for years now to continuously improving speciality arabica while working alongside his passionate team of family members and agronomists.
This particular varietal of coffee, “SL34”, is
synonymous with quality Kenyan coffee and is found in countless sought after lots from that region. This work by U Sai Wan to produce uncommon varietals in the region is a testament to the great skill of the team, with the quality of the cup showing total success.
This is our first coffee from Myanmar here at Mutual, sourced through the great team at Indochina, and we're honoured to share something from such a key team in the country's industry. Many of Myanmar's coffee estates were once poppy plantations, draining environmental resources and trapping producers in a cycle that relied on poppy production being their best hope for income. Recent years have seen a huge growth in speciality arabica production throughout the country with efforts from international bodies to fan the flames and create a thriving industry in Myanmar that offers greater opportunities for farmers to build a stable life and career. It's a region we're already excited to return to while we explore this beautiful coffee for the first time.
