Hunbatz - Guatemala

from £8.50

Brewing up with crisp red apple acidity that’s lifted by rich hazelnut and toffee flavours alongside syrupy textures, this deliciously sweet washed lot from Guatemala is a dream for Everyday drinking.

Produced by a collection of farmers in the Cuilca region of the Cuchumatanes Mountains and sourced through our wonderful friend Javier at Caribbean Goods, Hunbatz is a perfect example of so many things we love in Guatemalan coffee. After harvesting their coffee cherries the producers handle processing almost entirely at their homes by utilising nearby rivers as a water source, channeled through makeshift canals, to wash the pulped cherries. The washed coffee is then sun dried by being spread across metal sheet roofs, which double as drying patios for a time. An incredibly resourceful solution to the lack of small scale coffee processing equipment!

The work that Javier and Caribbean Goods do with their partners across the country is fantastic and we’re honoured to be sharing even a small part of these efforts. Their dedication to wellbeing of producers and the land is inspiring to see and as a gesture of this, they are planting a tree in Guatemala for every green coffee bag of Hunbatz that’s purchased through them.

Great coffee from great people, it’s what we’re all about.
