Aquiares Estate has a history of over 100 years in coffee, but their approach could not be a better example of how the industry can flourish in the future, with sustainability for both the land and the producers involved. The farm is the largest in Costa Rica, having also established itself as a town and residence to over 1800 people, with the vast majority of farmers owning their own homes. As a certified carbon neutral company the estate has considered every aspect of how to preserve their corner of the beautiful Turrialba Volcano slopes, with 20% of the land dedicated entirely to preservation of local wildlife and plant species. The entire process from seedling production through to milling and beyond is handled by the estate with great care, showing that when producers are allowed to integrate more of the production chain then the results are beneficial for all: more opportunity for a flourishing business at origin and fantastic quality coffee for consumers.

It's a joy to share this coffee as part of Mutual's launch. Diego Robelo of Aquiares was the first coffee producer I had the chance to meet at the beginning of my career and hearing the work that the estate was doing opened my eyes to the meaningful good that coffee can do.
